MSP Claudia gets a fare deal for passengers

THE ending of a long-running problem for Clydesdale commuters to Glasgow is just the ticket, according to a local politician.

Complaints were made known to South of Scotland MSP Claudia Beamish that returning travellers had to choose between buying either a Carstairs or Lanark return ticket to and from the city.

This was far from satisfactory as, depending on the timetabling, it was sometimes more convenient for those travelling out from Lanark to Glasgow to return to Carstairs or those leaving from Carstairs to catch a Lanark train back.

ScotRail – until now –would not allow the flexibility for travellers to choose their return destination.

However, after pressure from the MSP, ScotRail has relented.

And the firm will shortly introduce this flexibility.

Claudia told the Gazette: “I am pleased that passengers in Clydesdale will soon have the freedom to use rail services into Glasgow and back which best suit their needs on a given day.”

For more on this, see the Carluke and Lanark Gazette.
