Natasha Paton FAI now starts on Thursday at Lanark Sheriff Court

The Fatal Accident Inquiry into the death of 17-year-old Natasha Paton in the Lanark Grammar School bus crash over two years ago will now start later than planned, on Thursday rather than Monday this week.

The probe, being held at Lanark Sheriff Court, will last for over a month and will, hopefully, finally answer the many questions still surrounding the tragedy on the last day of March, 2010.

The highly promising and popular teenager from a tiny settlement near Cleghorn was one of a party of 39 Grammar pupils and five teachers who had set out early on a snowy morning on an official school trip to Alton Towers when their coach left the road at a bridge near Wiston.

The coach overturned into a burn and Natasha’s body was later found under the wreckage.

The provisional timetable for the FAI has now been issued with the caution that dates might be altered and extra sessions added if necessary.

Originally the inquiry was to take place on November 5 and 6, but the first session of week one will now be Thursday, November 8; then November 19, 20, 23 for the second week, November 27, 29 and 30 for week three and December 3, 4, 5 and 7 for the fourth week.

It is, as yet, unknown how many, if any, of the 38 pupils or teachers who survived the crash near Wiston will be called as witnesses.
