Natasha’s marathon effort in Paris in memory of her mum

Maxine Porter died of lung cancer when daughter Natasha was just 12-years-old.

To thank the Marie Curie Hospice at Huntershill, where her mum spent her last days, Natasha (25) decided to take on the Paris Marathon to raise much needed funds for the charity.

The former Boclair Academy pupil took up running two years ago and completed the marathon comfortably in 4 hours and 40 minutes.

Natasha, who moved to Torrance to live with her aunt and uncle, Lorraine and Tommy Brunton, after her mum died, said: “Marie Curie provided excellent care and support in my mum’s time of need and I want to do my bit to give back to such an amazing 
charity. Although I was just a child at the time, I could see the 
difference the care made.”

Natasha has smashed her £800 target by more than £300 and the cash is still rolling in.

She said: “I thought the Paris Marathon would be a really good one 
to do. Twelve of us went across. A lot of people cheered us on, particularly when they saw the Scottish flags.”

Natasha’s aunt Lorraine said: “Tommy and I are so proud of Natasha. She’s a 
wonderful girl. It was a difficult time for her when her mum died but she came through it and is doing fantastically well.”
