Neilston tops the postcode tables

From a list of ten detailing the most desirable postcodes in Scotland, four are located on the southside of Glasgow.

Royal Mail has released an update of its 2015 study to find the most desirable places to live and work based on postcode.

The study looked back at the past two years and calculated the most desirable areas based on a range of factors including good schools, access to green spaces, good employment prospects, working hours, affordable housing and average commuting times.

Three-quarters of the areas in the Scottish most desirable places to live and work are around Glasgow. Shorter working hours and shorter commute times as well as access to local services, better schools and lower crime rates, helped boost these locations desirability.

Topping the tables is G78: Neilston followed in 4th place by G76: Eaglesham, 6th place G46: Giffnock and finally, in 8th place G77 : Newton Mearns.

Kirsten Oswald MP has expressed her delight at East Renfrewshire’s strong performance in the recent poll of the most desirable places to live in Scotland.

To celebrate this news, Kirsten laid down an Early Day Motion in Parliament celebrating this great accolade for our local communities.

“I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to travel around East Renfrewshire to hold my local surgeries. It is always a pleasure to visit our local communities, which all have a great deal to offer.

“East Renfrewshire has a great sense of community spirit and local people who are committed to working together to build better communities is at the heart of what makes it such a special place.

“I am delighted to see this accolade for Neilston, and the excellent performances of Eaglesham, Giffnock and Newton Mearns. Our diverse and engaged community, coupled with the fantastic schools and easy access to green spaces only a stone’s throw away from Glasgow means it should be no surprise that East Renfrewshire communities feature so strongly in the top ten list.
