Nethanvale Care Home in Lesmahagow to close

The closure of Nethanvale Care Home, part of the Auchlochan retirement village, will see residents moved to care home owners MHA’s other retirement homes in the village, namely Bankhouse and Lower Johnshill.

According to notes from a staff briefing meeting, seen by the Gazette, MHA stated that Nethanvale “did not have the best environment for delivering care to residents to the level of service expected”.

In a statement MHA said: “We have a strategy for growth in order to meet the ongoing needs of the ageing population and to reach as many older people as possible.

“As part of this, it has been decided to redevelop Nethanvale, one of three care homes within MHA’s Auchlochan Garden Village community, into a brand- new retirement living development.

“This will help to meet the growing need of older people who wish to retain their independence by living in their own home with support while maintaining access to a clear care pathway should their requirements change over time.

“Nethanvale residents will all continue to receive the same high quality care and support found within MHA care homes. We will provide all the necessary support and assistance to residents and their families. We are currently consulting with the members of staff who may be affected by the decision and are looking to retain their skills within MHA wherever possible.”
