Netherlee pupils: where are you now?

Netherlee P7s are on a mission — and it may put them in touch with former pupils on the other side of the world.

The three primary seven classes are taking part in Beyond Netherlee, a project which will see them gather stories from past pupils across generations.

The ambitious project has been successful so far, with five former pupils — including a news reporter — coming in to speak to the youngsters. But whether it’s through video, radio, print or writing letters, there’s plenty more to be done.

Chris Duncan, class teacher for P7c, told The Extra: “We’re in charge of the media side of things, and other classes are working in the community — contacting retirement homes and local businesses.

“We’re looking to get a viral campaign going, and half the fun has been finding out how to spread the message.”

Whether it’s an email or a visit, Netherlee’s young investigators are interested in anyone who attended the school since it opened in 1933; their job, where life has taken them and how much inspiration Netherlee Primary provided.

Head teacher Joanne Scott added: “It’s important for the children to understand the school’s legacy — what better way than to learn what former pupils have done, so they can aspire to achieve even more?

“We’d like to create a big map of the world, and I think they might be surprised at how far it goes. All we need is a quick email telling us about your life, your job and how you ended up where you are.”

Former pupils are asked to email [email protected] .

The Extra will be following their progress — so watch this space for updates written by P7’s own budding reporters.
