New £55,000 play park for Lenzie children

Lenzie children now have the use of a brand new play park, which replaces a venerable facility first set up nearly 40 years ago.

Easter Garngaber play area – first set up back in 1980 – has been revamped at a cost of £55,000, after pupils from nearby Millersneuk Primary School and local residents were asked what improvements they wanted to see.

The council’s Streetscene technical support team used their comments to frame the design for an all-new play area.

Sited just off Easter Garngaber Road the fixture has a toddlers’ and junior play area, separated by a tarmac path.

The play equipment, aimed at children of all ages, includes a basket swing, anti-wrap flat and cradle swings, multi-play units and a variety of “springies”.

All the new equipment has been installed on a wetpour safety surface, which is slightly higher than the surrounding grass area to allow children to play even if the surrounding area is too wet to walk on.

Neighbourhood services convener Councillor Stewart MacDonald said: “So much thought has gone into the design and construction and there is so much for children of all ages to enjoy.

“This is the latest play park East Dunbartonshire Council has constructed over the last couple of years and we

hope it will encourage children to get out in the fresh air and stay active.”
