And the charity behind it expects that it will have to bring the Christmas magic to many dozens of children.

New Beginnings Clydesdale started out helping people who had been homeless move into new accommodation, but it has expanded in response to local need. Clydesdale Food Bank comes under its auspices too.

It has run a Christmas appeal for the last few years, but this year’s is exceptional as, in a major blow, the charity cannot get toys from its previous supplier, and this when the level of need is growing.

“We are attempting to provide toys for those children who cannot expect a visit from Santa,” said New Beginnings convener Mary McLellan.

“We are in the process of trying desperately to raise money.

“We need £5000 so we can carry forward this appeal and provide the toys to children as we have for the last six years.

The deadline for donations is December 9, to give the charity time to organise the Christmas presents. Mary can be contacted on 0755 473 6015.
