To mark this important milestone, a number of activities took place throughout the day at both campuses including magician shows, cartoon artist demonstrations and a hula hoop show.

There was also a live broadcast at the Cumbernauld campus from the college station, Radioactive, and students were also able to capture their first day across both campuses in the new college in the photobooth.

Principal Martin McGuire, said: “This is an important day for further education provision in Lanarkshire and I look forward to working with the staff and students across New College Lanarkshire to make it the best in Scotland.”

Students have been involved with the formation of the new college brand including the design of the new logo.

Students were asked to submit their ideas for a new logo, with Brian Craig, Ashleigh Beck, Laura Heffernan and Sean Murray selected to work on creating a new identity for the college.

Martin added: “Having the students involved in the branding of their college has been extremely important and Brian, Ashleigh, Laura and Sean have demonstrated their talent and skill by developing a logo New College Lanarkshire can be proud of.

“With that kind of ability amongst our students, I am certain that New College Lanarkshire has a bright future ahead.”

Cumbernauld-local, Ashleigh, who is studying HND Graphic Design, is thrilled to see her work come to life. She said: “It has been fantastic to be involved in the whole process and working with the other students has been a great experience.

“It has been a lot of hard work but I think the new logo looks great and seeing it up in the college, knowing I played a part in creating it, is amazing.”
