New Cumbernauld bridge on track

A VIDEO has been released by North Lanarkshire Council which shows showing the latest milestone in the Tummel Bridge project.

The first span of the £1.2 million 40-metre bridge at Cumbernauld Town Centre was successfully installed in a four-night operation which concluded on Monday, April 2.

The first piece of stairway plys three lengths of bridge deck and ten support cables are all now in place.

The construction was filmed and an edited version can be seen on Youtube. The competed bridge is planned to open next month.

A spokesman for Campsie Centres Ltd, the council-owned company in charge of the project, said: “We expect the bridge to be completed towards the end of May.

“Central Way had to be closed over four nights to allow the work to go-ahead and the whole operation went as smoothly as we had hoped.

“The replacement bridge looks fantastic and will become a real landmark for the town as well as fulfilling a very practical need for a full circuit to link all three shopping malls.”
