New for old – charity to launch new upcycle shop

faire belle, run by Cosgrove Care, is a supported employment project that offers practical skills training to its service users with the aim of helping people towards further training or employment.

The new shop on Kilmarnock Road, Shawlands, offers ‘upcycled’ goods, giving old pieces of furniture and home accessories a new lease of life.

faire belle, meaning to make beautiful, will also have an open workshop so that browsers will see works in progress.

The new shop was opened by East Renfrewshire’s Provost Alastair Carmichael.

Also in attendance at the opening was Ken Macintosh, MSP for Eastwood.

Derek Brown, Cosgrove’s supported employment manager said: “We have been trialing the project for the past few months from a warehouse in Barrhead so it’s great that we now have a visible base where customers can come in to browse, donate and buy.”

Proceeds from the sales will remain within faire belle.

He will arrange a suitable time for an uplift.

Cosgrove also appeals for any businesses that would like to work with Cosgrove to get in touch with the group’s fundraiser, Nicola Walsh, on 620 2500.

Firms can also sponsor faire belle projects by offering time as well as cash or donations.

Management and staff can offer to spend a number of hours per month working on upcycling and other projects.

The charity specialises in providing personalised support and care services for children and adults who have learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, or mental health issues living in and around Glasgow and East Renfrewshire.
