New homes for Carbrain families

The £7.1 million social housing project will provide 73 affordable homes to tenants, and keys to the first 31 completed houses have now been handed over to their tenants,

Mum-of-three Beth Miller was among the first to receive keys to her new home. Beth, husband John and children Carrie (7), Ellie (2) and John junior (6) moved into a three-bedroom Beechwood Court house from a two-bedroom flat in Kilsyth.

Beth (42), said: “We are pleased to move in and have a bit more space. We really like the house and can’t wait to get settled.”

Scottish Government funding is helping meet the cost of the development, on land provided by North Lanarkshire Council. The properties are a mix of two, three and four-bedroom bungalows and terraced, semi-detached and detached houses. The homes were built by Sanctuary Scotland and will be managed by Sanctuary Cumbernauld.

All of the occupants were on North Lanarkshire Council’s waiting list for new accommodation. All construction work will be completed in early 2013 when the remaining houses will also be given over to tenants.

“This development is another example of our commitment to working with North Lanarkshire Council and the Scottish Government to provide high quality, affordable housing in Cumbernauld.”
