New housing for Mauldslie Estate, Carluke

PLANS for five new houses to be built on the Mauldslie Estate have met with an angry response from one Clydesdale councillor.

Clydesdale West Councillor David Shearer believes the scale and design of the development, coupled with poor access to the former Mauldslie Castle Nurseries, is not in keeping with the estate.

He said: "The scale is too big for the area and the design of the

development is very much an urban style street in a very rural setting. I don't know how it was given permission.

"Mauldslie is a unique development and we should preserve that. I'm afraid that this will set a precedent in the Clyde Valley."

The plans, by Stay Home Construction, were approved at a recent meeting of the council's planning committee.

Four of the four bedroom homes are two storey detached and one is single storey.
