New Lanark locals don’t want cut off during roadworks

ANXIOUS Clydesdale villagers are seeking assurances that roadworks won’t mean they are cut off from the rest of the world for a whole month later this year.

A special meeting is being held in New Lanark on March 24 to put residents’ fears to rest over the impact of the extensive works to the one narrow road in and out of their village taking place from April to mid-May.

For much of the four final weeks of the seven week, £700,000 upgrade, being carried out by South Lanarkshire Council, that single link will be totally closed for long periods of the day, mostly overnight, with access for emergency vehicles only.

The general attitude among villagers and the New Lanark Trust appears to be that the road repairs ARE necessary but all want the disruption kept to an absolute minimum.
