New lease of life for community rooms

A COMMUNITY centre which has been part of the town for decades is set to take on a new function after a community group expressed interest in converting it into their headquarters.

In January we told how Lomond Community Rooms in Condorrat had closed its doors after plunging temperatures did their worst.

The building which was owned by North Lanarkshire Council had a history of burst pipes - and the waterlogged premises looked set to fall into disuse. The News understands that only one local group still uses the centre.

There had been some speculation that Condorrat Tenants & Residents Association were prepared to take the building on as their headquarters - but in the event, it is ANOTHER Condorrat-based group that looks set to move in.
