Remember Well, which aims to make life brighter through reminiscence, meets twice a week in Crosshill Parish Church.

Secretary Barbara McQuade said: “Our aim is to involve members in recalling and sharing memories from the past through football, quizzes, photographs, news stories, films, music and outings to stimulate the brain into remembering well.

“At present we have 20 members from all parts of North and South Lanarkshire and we would welcome new members to join in the fun. It is amazing to sit in on one of our weekly sessions and see all the members respond with comments and laughter.

“Occasionally past and present football players and other guests visit the group to chat to the members and these are well received and greatly enjoyed.”

Meetings are held on Wednesdays from 1.30-3.30pm and Thursday from 11am-12.30pm, and the charity has appealed for help with ensuring members can attend.

Barbara said: “We are indebted to the church for the use of their superb premises and the kindness they have shown us.

“A few of our group require transport to the hall and sometimes this can be a problem as we do not have enough volunteer drivers to provide this service.

“We don’t wish to disappoint regular members as continuity in their lives in essential, therefore we would appeal to anyone who could assist us with transport to get in touch.

“Any other donations or sponsorship to help with our efforts would be most welcome too.”

In addition to regular meetings a support group for carers also meets once a month.

Barbara said: “They help and comfort one another at difficult times as they understand and can relate to each other.

“Sometime all that is needed is a cup of coffee a blether and a hug from someone who shares the daily routine.”

She said: “There is no known cure for dementia as yet so if we can make life a bit better by providing care and understanding in their lives please help us do it together.”
