New '˜Milngavie Makers Market' for talented local entrepreneurs

Jessica Stafford Cameron (32) was so impressed by all the talented people in Scotland, and more locally, that she decided to start a monthly market which would give them the chance to showcase and sell their work.

Jessica said: “I’ve lived in different places in the world and I feel like Scotland’s really special - there are so many talented people and I thought they really need a place to sell their products.

“Milngavie was the obvious choice for me as I live locally and it’s easy for people to get there by train.”

The first event will be held in Milngavie Town Hall, to allow for the cold, often wet, Scottish weather, on Saturday, March 19 from 1pm to 5pm.

She hopes there will be about 20 stalls selling all sorts of products including children’s books which are written by Jessica’s father-in-law Sir Roy Cameron (68) and illustrated by her.

The dynamic duo have published three children’s books ‘I Once had a Chimpanzee’, ‘The Tale of Jessie the Highland Cow’ and last December ‘Harry the Hairy Hamster.’

Sir Roy Cameron started making up stories to entertain his grandchildren, Owen (4) and Juliet (2), when he was looking after them.

Due to constant demands from his grandson he decided to write them down and develop them, with help from Jessica for the illustrations.

Artist Jessica, originally from northern California, met Roy’s youngest son Graham when they were both in New Zealand and just two years later they married in Mugdock Castle.
