New Milton Primary School in Lesmahagow

PLANS for the new Milton Primary School have been given the go ahead, following a meeting of the council's planning committee.

The new school, which will cost 8.3 million, was given the green light by the committee and will see the erection of a new split level school on the site of the current building.

The new three storey building will be an L shape — with the teaching wing being two storeys and comprising nine classrooms.

An existing multi-use pitch will still be used by the new school.

The building will also incorporate a gym hall with a stage, which will be used by the school and the wider community.

Work is expected to begin later this year with the pupils set to be decanted to the old Woodpark Primary before the end of the summer term to ensure as little disruption to pupils as possible.

Clydesdale South councillor Alex McInnes said: "The new school will be an excellent facility for the pupils and the community."
