New name for Carluke Health Centre medical practice

STAFF at a Carluke Health Centre medical practice are looking ahead to their imminent move to the town's new state-of-the art health centre in Chapel Street on August 16.

And thanks to a majority staff vote, the name of their headquarters at the new centre will be St Luke's Medical Practice.

It was the most popular name with employees including practice manager Laura Anne McMahon, six GPs, three practice nurses, 10 reception workers and four admin staff.

"We looked at the history of Carluke and discovered that St Luke was a patron saint of the town who was a physician," said Laura Anne (35), practice manager of Drs Stewart, Innes and Partners.

"So we thought the name would be appropriate. The new centre also looks out directly onto St Luke's Cemetery."

The practice will form part of the 14 million Carluke Community Health Centre built over three levels, which will also include High Mill Medical Practice (of Drs Workman, Christie, McLeod and Lindsay); Carluke Smile Studio Dental Practice and community services.
