New public lavatory could be built in Lanark to mark Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

LANARK’S tribute to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee could be to provide a throne for all the townsfolk – by building a new public lavatory.

To be strictly accurate, the proposed Jubilee Toilets would be the rebirth of the old lavatory block in the Castlegate opposite Lidl’s store, closed a decade ago to make way for a housing development.

The fact that the flats planned for the site were never built and the gap site remains a litter-strewn eyesore in the heart of the burgh partly inspired the suggestion of a new lavatory as the Royal Burgh’s official Jubilee tribute when the issue came up at Monday night’s meeting of the town’s Community Council.
