New sparring partner for ER Good Causes

East Renfrewshire Good Causes is £150 richer — and counting — thanks to the kindness of two local businesses.

Glasgow Fitness Gym in Thornliebank teamed up with Glasgow’s New Life Gym on Saturday for an interclub sparring session between boxers and martial artists from both facilities — and their chosen charity was a grassroots organisation.

Everyone taking part made a donation, all of which went to the local charity which funds odd jobs and good deeds for East Renfrewshire’s most vulnerable neighbours, as identified by frontline workers.

Glasgow Fitness Gym has also signed up as a business partner to East Ren Good Causes, with owner Raj Singh agreeing to a monthly donation of £25.

He told The Extra: “We had a great day — it was such a friendly atmosphere and we had lots of fun while doing something worthwhile, to raise money for a local charity.”

Russell Macmillan, founder of ERGC, commented: “It’s excellent when decent, community-minded local businesses like the Glasgow Fitness Gym join the growing number of both individuals and corporate groups who are regular standing order supporters, and I appeal for more to follow this great example.

“In these times of growing government cutbacks, our charity is being asked to provide a greater level of support — so please join our attempts to love our East Renfrewshire neighbours.”
