New takeaway hit by blaze

CUMBERNAULD’S newest takeaway outlet fell prey to a blaze on Hogmanay - which will put the fledgling business out of commission for several weeks.

Marini’s in the town centre had been trading for just three weeks when an electrical fault caused a blaze in the back shop.

Staff and revellers quit the scene as two fire engines sped to the premises on South Muirhead Road. Firefighters dealt with the blaze in just over an hour and liased with emergency staff from Scottish Power who were drafted in to make the area safe. Proprietor Sep Marini said: ‘‘Obviously it is very disappointing especially as the place was going like a train - but we are doing all we can to get the place up and running again.’’

Marini’s also has a takeaway in Kilsyth and is the sister company of the Largs-based restaurant Nardini’s.
