NHS Lanarkshire medicsstand up to sepsis

NHS Lanarkshire staff will be highlighting how they 'sock it to sepsis'.

September is Sepsis Awareness Month and teams from NHS Lanarkshire’s Reducing Harm Sepsis Collaborative will be holding roadshows during World Sepsis Day on September 13.

Sepsis, also referred to as blood poisoning or septicaemia, is a potentially life-threatening condition triggered by an infection or injury.

The roadshows will have information stalls in Asda in Cumbernauld, Hamilton and Motherwell as part of their support for the Sock it to Sepsis campaign to raise public awareness of the condition.

Jane Murkin, NHS Lanarkshire’s head of patient safety and improvement, said: “Sepsis kills more people each year than bowel, breast and prostate cancer combined. Yet 60 per cent of adults have never heard of sepsis and don’t know how what signs and symptoms to look out for.

“We will be hosting our stalls from 11am to 2pm at each location so that we can let shoppers and other members of the public know about the signs and symptoms of sepsis and share with them the success our patient safety programme has had in reducing the impact of sepsis among those we care for.

“NHS Lanarkshire has cut the risk of death from sepsis by 30 per cent within hospitals since 2011.

Come along to the information stalls and find out how you can help us sock it sepsis - it could save your life!”
