The politician said: “I am very pleased to welcome Bell and Felix, another new business in the local area.

“The cafe/bistro will be a fantastic addition to the Shawlands scene, one which has set out to offer support to the local community; by employing local people, supporting and publicising local initiatives and contributing to the regeneration of Shawlands — as well as having fabulous food, coffee and cake.”

The deputy first minister had lunch at the cafe before chatting to customers.

Co-owner Richard Bell said: “It has been a journey to open Bell and Felix, but I have had lots of support from family and friends and the people of Shawlands have been fantastic, even before we opened!”

Bell and Felix is located at 248 Kilmarnock Road.
