Nicole's team trumps USA in cook-off

Nicolle Finnie, who recently gained an HND Professional Cookery qualification from the college is now undertaking a degree in Hospitality Management.

She was part of the Scottish team that went head-to-head with students from Maryland’s Anne Arundel Community College in the high-profile live cook-off competition.

The event, which was staged at City of Glasgow College, was watched by hundreds of high-profile figures from education and politics including Deputy First Minister John Swinney.

Nineteen-year-old Nicolle, a former pupil of Williamwood High School, said: “It was a privilege to be a part of the celebrations for the City of Glasgow College Gala Evening. We all felt proud to be able to showcase the skills we’ve learnt at the college to such a huge audience.

The cook-off cast a spotlight on the partnership City of Glasgow College has recently established with Anne Arundel Community College, which will next year see the launch of a formal international student exchange programme.

City of Glasgow College Principal and Chief Executive Paul Little said: “Strong synergies exist between our two colleges and I’m delighted we are able to enter into this agreement as both our colleges will no doubt benefit. Anne Arundel Community College was recently voted as one of the best culinary and hospitality schools in the USA, whilst City of Glasgow College continues to cement its reputation as a world-class provider of hospitality training with frequent wins at high-profile world-class competitions and award ceremonies.”
