

The City Deal initiative, agreed with the UK Government, means more than £500 million will be spent in infrastructure projects across Glasgow and Lanarkshire with the final tally totalling £1 billion if the Scottish Government match the UK Government’s commitment.
However, the council’s £169 million is set to be spent on four projects outwith the old Clydesdale district.

In Executive Committee papers it is noted that the four projects set to be given the green light are :
* Converting Stewartfield Way in East Kilbride into a dual carriageway, costing £62 million;
* Dualling Greenhills Road on the A726 in East Kilbride costing £23 million;
* The £21.6 million upgrading of the Cathkin Bypass in Rutherglen;

* And £62.3 million being pumped into ‘community growth areas’ in Newton, Hamilton, Larkhall and East Kilbride.
