Proposals going out for public consultation give the option of one Lanarkshire out of hours centre at Douglas Street in Hamilton or two centres – in Hamilton and Airdrie.

The out of hours service was set up to provide urgent assessment and treatment in the evenings and weekends when GP practices are closed.

NHS 24 could ask patients to go to one of three hospitals – Wishaw General, Monklands and Hairmyres – and there were two “satellite” centres in Cumbernauld and Lanark, open for part of the out of hours period.
