No progress for Buckfast-backed football project in Carbrain
A 200-MEMBER sports club in Cumbernauld remains homeless as talks with North Lanarkshire Council have dragged on for six years.
Volunteer-run Carbrain Boys Club has been homeless since 2004, when its ground was sold to Tesco as part of the site for its main supermarket in the town. Club staff approached North Lanarkshire Council about a ground share scheme with St Margaret of Scotland Primary School - on the basis that they would lease its pitch and build new facilities which would be freely available to the school. They are supported by Buckfast, who pledged £50,000 to the project.
Ben McDermott of Carbrain BC said: “Here we are, six years later and no further forward. It’s ridiculous, but nobody’s laughing.”
