No roads relief for Lanark traders

A SCOTTISH Power boss came personally to Monday night’s meeting of the town’s Business Group to tell the town’s traders there was no avoiding the disruption his company is causing on the main route into the burgh during the vital run-up to Christmas.

As reported earlier, there was shock at the announcement that the power company had chosen this time of year to embark on roadworks on the A73 Lanark-Carluke road to lay new cabling, the works reducing traffic to one-way on stretches of the road for up to 12 weeks right through the Christmas shopping season and into early 2013.

Alarmed at the impact this might have on Lanark trade during a “make or break” time of the year for businesses, the recently reformed Business Group wrote to Scottish Power asking it to compromise by closing down the work at the start of November and re-starting in January.
