Nursery children to learn about Fair Trade in new initiative

YOUNGSTERS in East Dunbartonshire will be taking part in Scotland’s first Fair Trade nurseries programme.

As one of the first places in Scotland to gain Fairtrade Zone status in 2007, East Dunbartonshire Council has a well-established fair trade agenda and links with people in some of the poorest parts of the world.

Now future generations will be learning from a very early age about the changes they can make and the impact fair trade can have on those who produce foods in different countries that we all enjoy here in Scotland.

For some nurseries fair trade isn’t new, but since the launch of the programme on 11 September 2012, all pre-school children at local authority nursery will take part in the innovative new programme

Council leader, Rhondda Geekie, said: “The introduction of the nurseries programme will ensure that the youngest members of our community are fully aware of the need for fair trade and the positive impact it has throughout the world.
