As predicted by the Gazette last week, on Thursday at the Scottish Parliament the now- ageing orphans, who claim they suffered years of abuse at the Smyllum and St Charles Orphanages, won their long, long battle for an official probe into their allegations.

Although most, if not all, of their alleged abusers are now dead, the former Smyllum orphan leading their campaign for justice hailed last week’s announcement by Scottish education minister Angela Constance as a victory.
