Oh, yes they are in Treasure Island

The southside pair will appear in key roles in Treasure Island at The Pavilion, an all-singing all-dancing panto that promises lots of laughs and a great baddie for audiences to boo.

Bill Forsyth fans may remember Douglas Sannachan as the window cleaner in Gregory’s Girl, alongside John Gordon Sinclair and That Sinking Feeling.

But the actor has a list of credits to his name and is currently working on his first movie script, due to be ready before the end of the year.

Douglas plays Billy Bones in a starring role alongside Leah MacRae — perhaps better known for as Julie in Gary: Tank Commander — as Blind Pew.

Douglas told The Extra: “It’s great being back walking the planks of the good ship Pavilion.

“The theatre has been good to me over the years. I think this is my 15th panto there.

“Playing Billy Bones and Ben Gunn will have their challenges, for example being skeleton thin and as mad as a castaway on Bear Gryll’s The Island.

“It’s been a great year playing the news vendor in a successful run of the Celts in Seville and Drunk Tam in the always popular Please Stay!”

Fellow thespian Rachel Duke, from Giffnock, plays a supporting role as one of the dancers.

The 12-year-old pupil first got interested in acting during drama classes at her school, Hillpark Secondary, where she played Tammy, a dancing and minor speaking part in the school presentation of the musical Hairspray.

She told The Extra: “I also went to acting lessons at Eastwood Theatre, performing in The Wizard of Oz. And was encouraged by my dance teacher Robert Hamilton at his school in the Gorbals.”

Rachel has high hopes of making acting and dancing her career and landing some plum roles.

She said: “I seem to like musicals and I’d love play the title role in Annie.”

Treasure Island runs from Wednesday, November 26 until January 18, 2015 except Mondays and Christmas Day, when the cast will be taking a well-deserved break.
