Olympic Flame won’t be burning in Clydesdale

Those with a burning desire to see the Olympic Torch in Clydesdale on its UK tour have had cold water poured on their hopes.

For the whole of Clydesdale has been snubbed by the Games tour organisers.

Clydesdale MSP Aileen Campbell said: “It is disappointing that most of South Lanarkshire – with the exception of Rutherglen – has been missed.

“A huge amount of work needs to be done to illustrate the benefits of the Olympics beyond London and this tour was part of that.

“For Lanarkshire, it would have been a great way to carry on the tremendous success of the Children’s Games.

“I will be writing to the organisers to see if there is any way for Clydesdale to get a spur off the main route.”
