The centre opened in Busby Road in 1995 after two groups of local people felt the area needed a common meeting place.

From day care services, child care and a café to youth work, knitting and musical memories the centre now delivers a host of activities for all sections of the community.

Mrs Fellows, whose constituency takes in Orbiston, said: “I was delighted to visit the Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre to celebrate with them on this special year.

“The opportunity to present (operations manager) Irene Gibson and all of the team with a birthday card and hear more about their work was one not to miss.

“I want to be engaging directly with the people I represent and the neighbourhood centre is just one example of the community spirit that exists within Bellshill.

“During my visit I met with dedicated volunteers and staff who are truly making a difference to the lives of local people and hear first-hand from those using the services just what it means to them.”
