ONE OF OUR WORST CASES EVER

A STARVING dog handed in to Cumbernauld Police Station had one of the largest growths that sickened animal cruelty inspectors had ever seen.

The adult Jack Russell cross was found wandering in the Carrickstone area on Sunday of last week.

She is now being cared for at the Scottish SPCA's Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Hamilton.

Scottish SPCA inspector Leanne McPake said: "This poor girl was very thin, starving and in significant discomfort due to a huge growth from her rear end.

"The growth is so large and in such an area that it could be difficult to operate on.

"We hope someone will be able to identify her owner. If anyone has seen her recently it would have almost been impossible not to notice such a huge growth, which is one of the largest we've ever seen and will have been growing for months.

"Abandoning an animal is an offence, as is failing to ensure it receives adequate veterinary treatment."
