Open and shut case for Rachel Barr (80)

IT WAS certainly NOT a case of 'early doors' when 80-year-old Lanarkian Rachel Barr asked for an urgent repair to her council home in Kildare Place.

Indeed, Rachel (80) has now been waiting since January for a new back door to replace the one her son had to burst open to rescue her after an accident there seven months ago.

She said: "I told the council what had happened and was told I would be getting a relacement door.

"It took them weeks just to come and put a temporary lock on the broken door."

In April, a council worked arrived with a door with a glass section - deemed unsafe by Rachel. A replacement was ordered and last week it showed up...but it too had a glass section.

Rachel has now raised the issue with Councillor Patrick Ross-Taylor.

South Lanarkshire Council told the Gazette: "The council has apologised to Mrs Barr for the oversight and inconvenience and a replacement door is currently being manufactured and will be installed on Friday."
