Open auditions in a city not too far away

Casting directors for the new film are coming to Glasgow next week in search a male and a female actor.

Open audition will be held at South Block, Wasp Studios, 60-64 Osborne Street between 10am and 2pm.

As well as being fit and intelligent, the filmmakers want the male actor to be able to play a character in his late teens or early 20s, and the female between the age of 17 and 18.

If successful, the actors will portray a pair of street smart orphans in the new film.

Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed and co-scripted by JJ Abrams,who is the man behind Lost and the last two Star Trek movies.

The new incarnation is due to begin shooting at Pinewood Studios in Spring 2014 and is scheduled for a 2015 release.

The last time a major Hollywood movie held an open casting call in Glasgow, for Brad Pitt vehicle World War Z, more than 3,000 people showed up for the audition.

Successful applicants will have the chance to be another in a long line of unknowns who have grabbed a major role in the. series, including Mark Hamill who rose from relative obscurity to secure the role of Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy.

Casting sessions will be also be held in London, Manchester, Bristol and Dublin.
