Open invite

Haggis may not often be on the menu in September, but Lodge Newton Mearns is inviting the public to an out-of-season Burns’ Night they are hosting next week.

Burns’ nights are held all over the world — usually in January to celebrate the birth of Scotland’s most famous poet, Robert Burns, who was also a well-known Freemason.

As part of this year’s Mearns community week, members of the local Lodge are inviting people with an interest in learning something about Freemasonry to a Burns’ Night to be held in Fairweather Hall, Barrhead Road, at 7.30pm on Thursday (September 13)

The Right Worshipful Master of Lodge Newton Mearns, Tom Edgar, said: “Although Freemasonry has its serious side we thought we would use this year’s open night to show the public we know how to have a bit of fun.”
