Cumbernauld Village is at the bottom of the pile every time – that was the uncomprising view of Councillor Gordon Murray who claimed that North Lanarkshire Council was dragging its heels with repairs to houses hit by rising damp at Wigtoun Place.

1987

FAULTS in local telephone lines are being left unattended to as workers at the British Telecom depot in Carbrain joined their colleagues across the UK on an indefinIte strike. A total of 80 engineers began picketing at the exchange and repair centre in Glencryan.

THE BIG R Roadshow rolled into the town hall courtesy of local impresario Ron McCambridge. A champion wrestler, Mr McCambridge had broadened his remit by hosting discos at local youth clubs and a weekly event at the Abetone Restaurant.

1972

FREQUENT train breakdowns are being slammed by local commuters who were often stuck in Springburn, on their way to Glasgow.
