In saddle for cycling saga

Cumbernauld dad Iain Kelly is planning an epic sponsored cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats to raise funds for the Bobath Project at Yorkhill Childrens Hospital.

This is his way of saying “thanks” to the hospital staff who have been treating his three-year daughter Abby who has cerebal palsy.

And already he has been promised almost £4000 before the five-man cycling party set out on Saturday on their estimated 1409km (881 mile) journey.

Iain (32) will be accompanied on the fund-raising venture by Abby’s uncles Graham (35) and David (26) and two friends.

Ian said: “Work-mate Joe Emms and Stephen Menzies, whom I used to play hockey with, contacted me as soon as thy heard about my plans to have the sponsored cycle to offer their support.

“Already, we have £1,600 from a Just Giving web page we set up, £1600 from sponsorship forms and £700 in cheques. Our target is to raise £10,000 but this might be just a wee bit ambitious – our plan is to share the money equally between the Bobath Projects at Yorkshill and Port Glasgow.”

Iain added: “We set out from Land’s End on Saturday and hope to complete the journey by June 4.

“The ‘wee one’ is too young to understand what’s happening though – she just knows her dad is going away with her uncles on their bikes for a few days!”
