Tributes to former Condorrat community council member Helen Cairns

TRIBUTE has been paid to a hardworking member of Condorrat’s community council who passed away last month, aged 51.

Helen Cairns of Airdrie Road died at Strathcarron Hospice after a short illness.

The former Isola employee, who latterly worked at Cake Decor in Westfield, is survived by her husband Peter, mother Morag plus brother Jim – and her passing has sparked much grief in Condorrat and beyond.

Although the community council is now defunct, former chairman Bobby Johnston told the News and Chronicle that the former factory worker geared herself round the needs of others – in both her family life and beyond it.

Bobby said: “It was such sad news. She was the nicest person you could meet. Helen did so much for the community council.

“I remember at the last Condorrat Gala Day that we organised together, Helen managed to get the Strathclyde Police Pipe Band out to play – and she organised everything.

“Our thoughts go out to Peter and the rest of her family,” added Bobby.

Helen was laid to rest after a funeral mass at Holy Cross Parish Church on November 30.
