Outrage as bulldozers trundle in on Bluebell Dell

Bluebell Dell is a wildflower woodland near Hornshill Road, in Stepps.
Concerns were raised when diggers started working on the site recently.

Hide AdA concerned resident said: “The diggers have been in and wrecked one side of the dell. It’s been obliterated.”
A spokesperson for Scottish Water, who are carrying out work in the area, said extra capacity was need in the waste water network to deal with additional flows from a development in Cardowan.
The spokesperson added: “We carried out a full environmental impact study and a full ecological survey prior to starting work. The land is privately owned and the bluebells in the area are a non-protected, non-native variety.
“After digging up the land we stored the top soil in two protected bunded areas and these contain the bluebell bulbs. In time the land will take on its previous appearance when we reinstate the top soil.”
