Overburns fight is back on again

Despite its application being rejected twice by South Lanarkshire Council – and a Scottish Government Reporter ruling against the company – Patersons of Greenoakhill took its fight to extract sand and gravel at the site, near Lamington, to the Court of Session.

However, when Patersons bid was once again thrown out in March last year it sparked huge celebrations – with many believing that was the end of the matter.

That was until news of the fresh planning application reached locals, including members of the Clyde River Action Group (CRAG) who have fought against Patersons every step of the way.

CRAG chairwoman Caroline Parker said: “What part of No do Patersons not understand?

“Are they expecting the tax payers of South Lanarkshire to endure their so-called planning application?

“Whose best interests should the council serve? The law abiding citizens of South Lanarkshire or one company and the landowners?”

Caroline confirmed that CRAG would continue to fight any plans made by Patersons regarding Overburns, going back to court if necessary.

CRAG member Arthur Bell continued: “It is absolutely appalling; I think there should be complete outrage at this application.
