As reported in the Gazette, Upperward residents have fought a long and expensive campaign against the plans by Patersons of Greenoakhill to develop the Overburns site near Coulter as a major new quarry.

On two occasions they thought they had won their case only to see Patersons pursue the matter further.

The planning authority, South Lanarkshire Council, knocked back planning permission applications for the development twice, decisions the firm appealed against to the Scottish Government.

Its planning inquiry reporter upheld the council’s ruling but Patersons then appealed to the Court of Session in Edinburgh in November in a bid to overturn that decision.

Now the Gazette understands that the court is on the verge of announcing its ruling on that final appeal.
