Owen and Wallace celebrated in new walking route

A PORTRAIT Bench celebrating the links to South Lanarkshire of legendary Lanark warrior William Wallace and New Lanark social reformer Robert Owen has been unveiled.

Voted for by the public, and also profiling explorer David Livingstone, the bench at Hamilton’s Chatelherault Country Park signifies the completion of a new walking and cycling route from Hamilton to Larkhall.

Carluke Councillor Eileen Logan, current South Lanarkshire Provost, said: “The portrait bench is a fitting tribute to the completion of this walking and cycling route. It is a unique way to celebrate three very well known figures that have clear links to South Lanarkshire.”
