Pals dye hair to help wife’s cancer battle

That’s what Kilsyth man Stephen Muir (44), of Barlandfauld Street, and his mate Graeme Swan (27) have discovered after having their hair dyed to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The pair wanted to support Stephen’s wife, Linda (41), who is bravely battling breast cancer for the second time.

Stephen said: “Linda has been dealing with cancer for two-and-a-half years, and is going through radiotherapy just now. We wanted to do something to raise money for the charity and help others.

“I grew a goatee beard and went down to Pat Drain’s the barbers and they shaped it for me and dyed it pink. I got the pink breast cancer ribbon [Tickled Pink] shaved into my head and dyed as well.”

Stephen, who works for roads company Amey, is delighted to be raising money for the charity, but is enjoying watching people’s reactions to his special cut just as much.

He added: “I’m out digging the roads just now and people are walking past and I don’t think they can believe what they see!

“I’m six foot five so all they can see is a little tuft of pink hair on the top of my head and my pink beard.

“I got it done at the weekend and Linda and I were out shopping the next day. I see people and their kids walking past staring and Linda deliberately turns round to watch their faces. It’s been a really good laugh.”
