Panel works to tackle crime

The Northern Corridor Crime Prevention Panel has now been set up to encourage an information exchange between those people representing the community and police.

The group will meet bi-monthly and discuss any issues that are problematic within communities across Cumbernauld and Kilsyth.

Members in return can seek information from police on a variety of issues relating to crime prevention.

Police can also actively use information provided at these panels to tackle problem areas.

There are several members elected to the panel and some are pictured with community safety police officer Michael Duffy.

They include Billy Lees, John King and Graham McDonald.

Graham believes the panel is a positive step towards creating a dialogue between the public and the police.

He said: “This provides the community with an appropriate avenue for contacting the police. Not everyone wants to talk to the police but they will take problems they have to a community group to raise the issue for them.”

The group is yet to hold their first meeting.
