Parents take action over nursery fears

DESPITE a reprieve announced this week for Clydesdale primary schools, fears for the future of at least two of the area's nurseries have prompted worried and angry parents to take action.

Although South Lanarkshire Council insists that no final decision has yet been taken on their fate, worries grew this week for the future of St Mary's Primary Nursery in Lanark and the just recently built Rigside and Rural Communities Nursery.

It was at Rigside that news that its nursery was on a list of potential closures as South Lanarkshire Council looks for 80m of savings prompted the mum of one toddler there to start a petition in the village late last week; as the Gazette went to press this week over 100 people had signed a message which very clearly states: "Hands off Rigside Nursery."
