Pensioner given £90 fine for parking at a supermarket

An angry gran was left stunned after being hit with a £90 parking ticket from a supermarket.

The 75-year-old, from Bishopbriggs, regularly parks at Lidl in Springburn, then gets the bus to Glasgow before returning to do her shopping at the store.

But when she returned last week the fine was left on her car windscreen. The store has introduced a system with motorists allowed to stay for a maximum of 90 minutes.

The woman said: “I nearly died when I saw the ticket. I left the car there at 11.11am and returned to it at 12.56pm.

“I spoke to the manager who said they had been getting complaints from customers that they can’t use of the car park. I said to him that was nonsense as the car park is always empty.”

A spokesperson for Lidl said: “Following a substantial number of customer complaints regarding availability of parking spaces at the Lidl Springburn store, the decision was taken to introduce a car park management system whereby the maximum time a vehicle can remain in the car park is 90 minutes.”
