Beat the Street East Renfrewshire enters its Go Active week

The Beat the Street challenge taking place in East Renfrewshire is about to enter its Go Active week to encourage participants try new activities, whether that’s cycling, scootering or jogging for the first time.

The idea is that people will find something that they might not have tried before to help them continue to keep up their new active habits after the Beat the Street competition comes to an end on Wednesday, November 11.

Nearly 10,000 people have signed up to take part in the East Renfrewshire game and together players have already travelled an incredible 85,000 miles so far in the competition.

Schools, community groups and workplaces have been battling it out for the past several weeks to take home prizes if they top the leaderboard. The top schools on each leaderboard will win £300 in their choice of either books or sports vouchers.

Crookfur Primary School is now at the top of the schools total points and average points leaderboards. Their 554 players have together scored 296,370 points with an average of 535 points each.

Councillor Tony Buchanan, Leader of East Renfrewshire Council, said: “Well done to everyone in East Renfrewshire who is safely taking part in Beat the Street. We’re now at the final stretch of the competition and Go Active week is a good opportunity to start incorporating small but powerful lifestyle changes into your day.”
